Time Line of Important Events in the Life of Jim Badger

1972 Music Man / w Bill Setchfield Nova Middle School Chorus / teacher: Allen Hill.
1974 Allen Hill approaches me with offer of great fun and unparalleled life achievement if I simply join the performing arts program as a stage tech. “Even stage techs must take voice lessons,” says Allen. I begin my long relationship with the abyss.
1975 Begin performing 5 nights per week The Millionaires Club, Miami. Tommy Yianilos forces me to start smoking cigarettes. Caron Conway offers me private driving instruction. I accept. Michael Gregory uses portable wooden floor and dances for me on his front porch. I know immediately that something really big or really weird is in the making.
1976 Begin performing 6 nights per week. Purchase 1966 Cadillac Sedan DeVille with trunk big enough for Tom Yianilos, Billy Yianilos and Scott Plank
1977 see 1976!
1978 Dames at Sea with the Buff. Graduate Nova High School. Berklee College of Music, Boston. 1200 male students + 18 female students = celibacy. I remember eating lots of tomato sandwiches, hanging out in the dorm.
1979 See 1978
1998 After 20 years of touring the world trying to get people to laugh and then listen to me sing, I settled in Naples, Florida with my talented and beautiful wife Jane and my three extraordinary children, James, Emma and Charles (Charlie).
I have a long term contract with a restaurant and lounge where I continue to do my show 6 nights per week. Two years ago I was made a partner in JDR Productions, a well-established entertainment production company and booking agency located in Naples, Florida. My title is Executive Director of Production and Marketing. We spend most of our time creating, selling and producing industrial musical extravaganzas and concert events but we are also quite active in artist management and entertainment marketing consultation.
I have left out the mention of several people in the time line above who were a great part of my life, my happiness and my success. Each of you knows who you are. Please know I have forgotten nothing.

I JOINED PERFORMING ARTS OFFICIALLY IN WHATEVER YEAR WE DID HARD KNOCK LIFE.

Those of you who thought it was earlier need to know that I hid away on the busses for years and pretended to be a part of the tech crew. I performed in HKL, Dames, This is the Biz, Surf Club Follies, George M, Something for Everyone and the Energy Source. I am sure Allen dragged some of us to other presentations in places like condo’s and dinner shows but I see no mention of those days at all in the History. It’s okay Allen, I think the statute of limitations is up.

I started playing in various nightclubs around town and began faltering in my PA duties. I distinctly remember Allen pulling me aside to tell me that the clubs were making me look like shit and he needed my attention if I planned to participate in the school. I was 14. I took some time off to study for the SAT’s in order to be accepted to a University (I had doubts as to the correspondence schools weight in college acceptance.)

I left AFPA in 1978 to attend Boston Conservatory of Music at the ripe old age of 16. I worked in various nightclubs for tuition and housing and after two years of burning at both ends, returned to Florida shy of a degree and a personal life. With my first husband, a rock and roll drummer, I produced three children. Ian Scott and Jordan Philip, twin boys, and Kaitlyn Patricia, my baby girl.

While becoming involved in law enforcement wasn’t expected, it seemed like the right thing for me (steady income and health insurance) and I put forth the usual amount of effort moving up the ladder so to speak. In 1988 I divorced and moved my family from Broward to Dade County, changing jobs along the way. I found my second husband in my new town and got married a few days before Christmas in 1989. Together we adopted three beautiful children John Joseph (Jack), James Michael, and Patrick Sean. Each of my children are amazing people, all different, but show signs of me in everything. I am so proud of them.  I am a grandmother to three and have been so blessed.

I lost my father to emphysema on his birthday in 98 and my mother a few years ago at 90. I love my friends and am so blessed to have been reunited with my comrades of old and have made many new friends that will last a lifetime.

Linda married our own Bruce Saver (also in PA) in 1982.

They have a beautiful daughter who is 7 named Laura. At two years old she had open heart surgery but is fine now. She is a real good singer and she has great pitch (That’s great musical tone for those sports fans).

Linda went to the University of Miami in 1979 and graduated with a double degree in Music Therapy and Music Education. In 1983 she went back to receive her M.A. in Music from U of M also.

She taught middle school for one year, and the assistant principal was Mr. Jarred from Nova, small world. She taught 10 years as the music teacher at Western High School and has taught music the last 7 years at Indian Trace Elementary where our daughter goes.

A Note From Bruce: Linda helped to start St. Bonaventure Church and was the Music Director for their first 10 years, with an adult and childrens choir… She has a beautiful voice, and you should here her play the flute! She is a great wife and mother to our daughter, and in this world, she is, The Music that makes me Dance!

Charlene Bowne (Wyns)

I joined Hall Hill Performing Arts at Dillard the year we did Dames at Sea. I stayed with HHPA and followed the group to The Atlantic Foundation for the Performing Arts where I was part of George M! and countless condo tours. After graduating I continued to study theatre and music at Broward Community College. I stayed in South Florida working in some local dinner theatres. Having a gymnastic background landed me a super fun gig being a magician’s assistance for Rand Woodbury in the show “Illusions”. I soon met my husband Michael. We married in ’84 and we moved to Central Florida to raise a family. I have to say my most accomplished achievement has been the mother to three amazing children; Ben, Jason, and Tori. To see my grown children successful, confident, and making a difference in the world around them, is all the reward I would ever need. My family continues to expand as I now have Daniel my son-in-love, Nichole and Talia my daughters-in-love. I currently work for Marion County Public Schools as the district Software Application Specialist. On the side, I love running, working out, boating, and of course visiting my children and grand babies. I am so thankful I have reconnected with HHPA Alumni. It is like coming home to our unique family, all bonded by the shared experience of being a part of this crazy group. HHPA holds a special place in my heart that always will stay with me.

Mike Brannon

mikeb125

Michael Brannon was a member of the Hall and Hill cool kids from 1972 to 1973. He played Beauregard Jackson Pickett in Mame in 1973 after the other students who tried out for that role were found beaten up behind the cafeteria. He frequently made Paige and Cookie cry with his attempts at singing and dancing during that production. Sue Kelbe once obtained a restraining order against him due to his constant comments about her “nice hands.” Bruce Saver frequently referred to him as “The Man Most Likely to Single-Handedly Ruin Show Business.” Like many other famous H and H alumni, he graduated to bigger and better things as a professional wrestler from 1976 to 1986. As you snicker at that one, he wonders who else amongst you were able to get loudly booed and jeered playing the same role every night for 11 years in several different countries? He was often joined in his acts of tyranny by his best friend Jim Azar (can he just stop singing “I Want to be Happy” over and over and over?). He has spent most of his days since that time as a juggler, ventriloquist, and mime. Okay, those last three were a lie but the visual is so captivating! He currently works as a (wait for it) forensic psychologist in Broward County, Florida. By the way, the picture accompanying this autobiography has to be Allen Hill’s idea of revenge against him for giving him the unforgettable nickname of “Bruiser.”
